Traditional Veneers vs Minimal-Prep Veneers
At our Thomasville, NC, practice, we offer minimal-prep veneers and traditional veneers, giving our patients more treatment options.
Both types of veneers require the removal of a small amount of enamel from the tooth in order to properly fit and blend with your natural teeth. Minimal-prep veneers require even less alteration to the natural tooth and are much thinner. This is a great solution to cover cosmetic imperfections while maintaining as much of the natural tooth as possible.
If you have significant discoloration, traditional veneers may be a better solution, as they hide discoloration better. However, minimal-prep veneers can, in some cases, be reversible. Generally, teeth that have been prepped for traditional veneers will always require some kind of restoration.

How Long Do Dental Veneers Last?
Porcelain veneers are a long-lasting solution. The average lifespan of porcelain veneers is 10 years, but with proper maintenance, they can last even longer. However, over time, the porcelain can become worn down and susceptible to breakage and may need to be replaced.

Veneer Placement

Frequently Asked Questions
How much do veneers cost?
The cost of porcelain veneers will vary based on the patient's needs. Some people may require only one or two veneers while others may want to cover all the teeth visible when they smile. During your free consultation, we will discuss the best course of treatment for you, as well as the costs.
Do veneers hurt?
Most patients have no discomfort during placement. Veneers are minimally invasive and require only a thin layer of enamel to be removed, and there is no downtime or recovery with veneers.
Why choose veneers instead of whitening?
Teeth whitening can only help with surface stains. Stains that reach the deeper layers of the tooth cannot be whitened even with professional whitening. Dental veneers work by concealing the stains behind thin shells of natural-looking porcelain.
Is there a limit to how many veneers I can get?
Assuming your teeth are healthy, no. At your initial consultation, your dentist will discuss your cosmetic goals with you, see if the teeth are healthy enough to support veneers, and determine how many veneers would help you achieve your cosmetic goals and fit your budget.

Maintenance
Caring for your porcelain veneers is as simple as brushing and flossing properly and having regular professional cleanings. Good oral hygiene is critical to avoid decay in the tooth under the veneer. Your dentist will give you full instructions on how to properly maintain your teeth for a beautiful smile that will last years!
If you grind your teeth at night, ask your dentist about a night mouthguard to prevent excessive wear on your veneers.
